Dang Book

Currently reading:

  • This B Just Won’t Die! by Tanya Pell

  • Burning Down the House: Talking Heads and the New York Scene that Transformed Rock by Jonathan Gould

  • Out There Screaming, edited by Jordan Peele

  • An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo

  • Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang [audiobook]

  • God of Fury by Rina Kent [audiobook]

I have decided to pause my re-listen of The Shards while I now finish these other two audiobooks (one——Natural Beauty——for a book club at the end of the month and the other——God of Ruin——very much under duress, at the insistence of a coworker**).

**You don’t get a greeting, Julia. I’m mad at you. THIS BOOK IS TERRIBLE.

Library updates:

I thought about skipping the missive this weekend, because I haven’t finished any of the many books I’m now currently reading and, honestly, because I’m just tired. Despite creating the document in which to draft this week’s update days ago, I’m finally actually sitting down to write it at approximately 10:15pm on Sunday night. Whoops!

In my defense, I’m furiously working on edits for both my day job and a freelance client, as well as doing my damnedest to keep my write-every-day (going strong since September 1!) and Duolingo (sixteen days!!) streaks afloat. I was also out of the house quite literally all day yesterday, Saturday, to take in the New York Comic Con sights with Britt (hi, Britt!), which included seeing Frankie Grande in the flesh at a Broadway panel, wading through Artist’s Alley in search of joy-bringing art pieces, and so very many X-Men cosplays.

Also we saw Verity. lol sorry.

Additionally, I’m trying to fit in more reading time, over endlessly scrolling Instagram and Reddit for nonsense that will just make me sad or angry or feel weird, or watching the same YouTube videos on an endless loop. I love Pretty Much It as much as the next gal (goooo, Tigers!), but I have to cut myself off.

Anyway, reading! The weather is finally getting chillier——and significantly less humid——so I decided to clean up my balcony and sit outside a few days ago to read. After a summer spent largely indoors to avoid roasting alive or dealing with the pigeons who have invaded my outdoor space, it’s been so nice to reclaim my space. I cleaned up and sat outside with my coffee to read one day before work, then worked out there on a work-from-home day, and it has significantly improved my outlook on most things. Highly recommend finding an outdoor space to enjoy, especially in New York right now!

Here’s hoping this means I’ll actually finish reading a dang book sooner rather than later.

Closing thoughts:

Get it done when you can.

Total books read from the Moratorium Library: 234

(Total books added to the Moratorium Library: 494)

After unsuccessfully hunting for a mythical B&N booth at NYCC, Britt and I went to McNally Jackson down at the Seaport to buy ourselves some more treats.
